How to Choose the Right Jewelry for Your Neckline
Updated: Dec 7, 2020
Have you ever wondered, How to choose the right jewelry for your neckline?
You're not alone! Picking out jewelry to wear with different necklines can be tricky.
With the various shirt and dress necklines, the accessories you choose do make a difference on the look of your outfit. I would love to share a few tips and tricks to help you create the look you are going for!
The first rule of thumb is to always wear jewelry that makes you feel good and confident. You want your pieces to reflect your personal style and personality no matter the neckline. Bottom line: If you don’t feel comfortable in it, don’t wear it.
In this post, I am going to discuss eight different necklines and how to accessorize each.
V-neckline
You have a lot of jewelry options with the V-neckline. You can wear a short necklace, bib necklace/ statement necklace, choker, dainty short necklace, or you can even layer necklaces.
If you would like to wear a long necklace make sure it ends well past the end of your V-neckline. You don't want your jewelry conflicting with the V.
Halter Neckline
With this neckline, I would wear statement earrings and a subtle short necklace.
A choker can create an awkward look and should be avoided.
You can also wear a long necklace that will compliment the color or pattern of the top.
Off The shoulder/Strapless Neckline
A safe option for this neckline would be bold, statement earrings. With these earrings, you don’t have to worry about a necklace competing with your neckline or taking away from the top.
If you would like to wear a necklace I would recommend wearing a necklace that sits on your collar bone or higher.
If you want to wear a long necklace make sure it sits on fabric and falls below the bust line.
Chokers can complement this neckline nicely.
Button-down Neckline
I recommend a dainty short necklace that sits on your collar bone for a traditional look.
I am not a huge fan of statement earrings and a statement necklace together with a button-down neckline. In my opinion, I think this look is visually overwhelming.
With a button-down shirt, you can button up the top to the last button, add a statement necklace and then pull the collar over the necklace to jazz it up and create a new look.
Turtle Neck
I love wearing long necklaces with a turtle neck because it does not interfere with the neckline. Also, long necklaces help elongate the neck and torso creating a flattering look.
A statement necklace and/ or Statement earrings will pop with the turtle neck top.
For obvious reasons, chokers and short necklaces do not work well with the turtleneck.
Crew Neck or High Neckline
These tops are great for showcasing your statement necklaces.
Long necklaces also complement this neckline well.
Scoop Neckline
This neckline is very versatile and you can enjoy long necklaces, short necklaces, and statement necklaces depending on your personal style.
Specialty neckline
These are necklines that have fun cut-outs, or criss-cross designs. You do not want to add accessories that will distract from this special neckline.
Avoid necklaces and opt for statement earrings and bracelets so that your jewelry is not competing with your top.
I hope you found these tips helpful. Remember: accessorizing is like putting icing on a cake! Just as icing enhances a cake and makes it better, accessories complement your outfit and create a beautiful look! Accessorizing should be a creative expression of who you are and a fun way to showcase your personal style!
